An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Trust Resilience team as Head of Special Operations. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Resilience, the Head of Special Operations is accountable for the leadership, management, development and strategic direction of Special Operations.
The Head of Special Operations will encompass responsibility for its obligations under Statute, NHS England Commissioning arrangements, contract standards including compliance against the core standards within the Emergency Preparedness Resilience and Response Framework, CQC standards, Multi-Agency Agreements and obligations.
Main duties of the job

Responsible for the leadership, management, development and direction of all Trust special operations response capabilities, ensuring they are delivered and maintained in line with local, regional and national requirements. Provide visible and empowering leadership to both operational staff and their supporting management team along with the wider command structures. Build and maintain effective partnerships with the other emergency service partners at local, regional and national levels whilst also maintaining effective relationships with the wider health community. The post holder will also be required to undertake on call duties as a National Interagency Liaison Officer (NILO).

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.
Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.
Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.
We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Essential criteria
Educated to Masters level (where such a qualification is not held the post older will be expected to work towards this level of qualification)Post graduate diploma in Management Studies or equivalent specialised experience (where such a qualification is not held the post holder will be expected to work towards this level of qualification)Relevant external training to maintain continuing professional developmentHolder of National Interagency Liaison Officer (NILO) qualification (where such a qualification is not held the post older will be expected to work towards this level of qualification)Qualified to State Registered ParamedicSuccessful completion of CBRN Provider, Operational and Tactical Command CoursesA full UK driving licenseRegistered on the National Blue Light Driving Register (where such a qualification is not held the post older will be expected to work towards this level of qualification)Excellent written and verbal communication skills.High levels of interpersonal skills including the ability to influence, support, develop and appraise staff.Management, motivation and team leadership skillsAnalytical, problem solving and decision-making skills – ability to analyse highly complex emerging situations and provide appropriate adviceDesirable criteria
