Position Overview:

The role involves overseeing the daily UK VAT operations of the Corporation of Lloyd's by:

  • Taking charge of the preparation and submission of VAT returns.
  • Serving as the primary contact for VAT-related inquiries and issues within the Corporation.
  • Providing support on VAT matters for cross-departmental initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with risk management and governance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation of the Corporation's quarterly VAT returns.
  • Manage other UK VAT compliance requirements, including annual adjustments.
  • Offer VAT guidance and support to various departments on inquiries and projects.
  • Assist overseas offices with VAT/GST matters as necessary.
  • Maintain VAT procedures and key controls within the governance framework.
  • Engage with HMRC on VAT-related issues.
  • Support lobbying efforts and industry representation on VAT matters affecting the Corporation.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Exceptional analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, capable of explaining tax-related topics to non-experts.
  • Ability to work autonomously while prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Collaborative mindset with the capacity to liaise with various departments and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in analyzing legislative changes and their implications for Lloyd's.
  • Proactive in identifying challenges and proposing solutions based on experience and procedural knowledge.
  • Confidence to question information and take initiative, particularly in ambiguous situations.
  • Consultative approach with the ability to navigate differing opinions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant VAT/GST frameworks, particularly in the UK.
  • Solid knowledge of partial exemption principles.
  • Robust grounding in UK VAT compliance.

Professional Qualifications:

  • Accountancy or tax qualification preferred, such as ACCA, ACA, or CTA. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
