About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically strong Civil Engineer - Bridge Design to join our dynamic and developing Design Teams. As a forward-thinking in-house business unit, the Shared Services Partnership offers a range of services to public authorities. Our Structures Design Teams are looking for a skilled professional to be involved in the delivery of challenging bridge design and maintenance schemes.

As a Civil Engineer - Bridge Design, you will be responsible for project management and design of a wide variety of bridge replacement, strengthening and maintenance schemes, as well as the inspection and assessment of current bridges and other highway structures. You will work closely with a senior member of the team to enable you to learn and expand your experience.

Our recent projects include design of a new integral two span continuous steel composite deck bridge as part of a bypass route, a bridge replacement scheme in a forest area, a refurbishment scheme of four major structures spanning over a river and Network Rail tracks with several small bridges and footbridges deck strengthened and replaced. Future work will include among others, multi-million railway footbridge replacement and strengthening of a 27 span concrete bridge, as well as continuing small replacement/strengthening schemes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and project management of bridge replacement, strengthening and maintenance schemes
  • Inspection and assessment of current bridges and other highway structures
  • Collaboration with senior team members to learn and expand experience
  • Development of technical skills and knowledge in bridge design and construction

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a good understanding of relevant design standards, construction methods and contract procedures. You should also have excellent communication and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Professional membership of a relevant institution (e.g. ICE, IStructE)
  • Experience in bridge design and construction
  • Knowledge of relevant design standards and construction methods
