About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Bridge Design Engineer to join our Bridge Design Teams at Hampshire County Council. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and delivering bridge projects, from assessment and maintenance to strengthening and replacement schemes.

Our team is responsible for maintaining over 1750 structures of various types, including single-span brick arches, Grade II listed cast iron bridges, and modern steel and reinforced concrete bridges. You will work on a range of projects, including the design of new bridges, refurbishment schemes, and structural assessments.

We are looking for an engineer with a strong background in civil or structural engineering, excellent knowledge of structural behavior, design codes, and materials, and proficiency in computer analysis. You should also have good communication skills and a high standard of report writing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver bridge projects, including assessment, maintenance, strengthening, and replacement schemes
  • Work on a range of projects, including new bridge design, refurbishment schemes, and structural assessments
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure all structures remain open to highway users and in a serviceable condition
  • Provide technical support to external clients, developers, contractors, and other local authorities
