As a progressive in-house engineering unit, Hampshire County Council provides a diverse array of services to the local authority and other public entities. Our Structures Design Teams are in search of a dedicated and technically proficient Bridge Engineer to engage in the execution of complex bridge design and maintenance projects. We foster a collaborative team atmosphere and prioritize the professional growth of our Engineers, ensuring they continuously enhance their expertise.
In your role within the Structures Design Teams, you will oversee project management and the design of various bridge replacement, strengthening, and maintenance initiatives. Additionally, you will conduct inspections and assessments of existing bridges and other highway structures. By taking a lead role on assigned projects, you will collaborate closely with a senior team member, allowing you to gain valuable insights and broaden your experience. A solid understanding of relevant design standards (Eurocodes), construction methodologies, and contract protocols is essential.
Recent projects have included the design of a new integral two-span continuous steel composite deck bridge as part of a bypass route, a bridge replacement initiative in New Forest, and a refurbishment project for four major structures spanning over River Test and Network Rail tracks, along with several smaller bridges and footbridges. Future endeavors will encompass multi-million railway footbridge replacements and the reinforcement of a 27-span concrete bridge, in addition to ongoing small-scale replacement and strengthening projects. Furthermore, we offer technical assistance to external clients, developers, contractors, and other local authorities.
