Slough, Slough, United Kingdom Turning Point Full time

Position Overview

At Turning Point, we are dedicated to assisting individuals throughout England facing challenges related to substance use. We are currently seeking candidates for the role of Community Support Specialist, where you will have the opportunity to significantly impact the lives of those in need. In this position, you will oversee a group of clients, conduct evaluations, create personalized recovery strategies, and guide them towards positive change. The role requires flexibility, including early morning and late-night shifts, as you will be working closely with individuals experiencing homelessness and those with complex needs who may find it difficult to engage in treatment. Your efforts will contribute to reducing crime and enhancing community safety.

Key Responsibilities

As a Community Support Specialist, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Developing adaptable and realistic support plans for clients.
  • Providing practical guidance and information to service users, their families, and professionals regarding available support.
  • Conducting clinical risk assessments and collaborating with various support services, healthcare providers, and community partners to deliver effective, recovery-oriented services.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and reports while advocating for the rights and responsibilities of service users.

You will need a solid understanding of recovery principles and the integration of clinical and psychosocial support methods for optimal outcomes. This role will also allow you to enhance your skills in group facilitation and structured psychosocial interventions while managing a caseload focused on substance use treatment.

Weekly Activities

Your weekly responsibilities will include providing specialized outreach support for substance use, which will involve:

  • Evening outreach sessions at community kitchens and shelters.
  • Drop-in services at local support centers.
  • Early morning outreach alongside multidisciplinary team colleagues.

Additionally, you will participate in community engagement activities, including night walks with local officials and providing support to temporary shelters.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess training in delivering effective brief interventions related to substance use and harm reduction, including needle exchange programs and the distribution of life-saving medications. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, whether in housing, healthcare, or substance use contexts, and who are deeply committed to fostering recovery in others. However, we also welcome applicants with transferable skills and relevant experience.

Strong communication and IT skills are essential for this role, and candidates with experience in alcohol treatment interventions will be viewed favorably.

Benefits

At Turning Point, we recognize that rewards come in various forms. Our comprehensive benefits package includes:

  • Extensive learning and development opportunities, with a commitment to investing in your future.
  • 28 days of paid vacation annually, increasing with tenure, along with options to purchase additional leave.
  • Access to an exclusive discounts hub for employees, covering a wide range of services and products.
  • Flexible working arrangements to support your work-life balance.
  • Life insurance and a competitive pension scheme to secure your financial future.
  • Access to confidential counseling services and wellness resources.
  • A 24/7 Employee Assistance Program offering various support services.
  • Recognition awards to celebrate outstanding contributions and long service bonuses.
  • Flexible benefits options, including a Cycle to Work scheme and interest-free loans for travel.
  • A referral bonus for successfully bringing new colleagues into the organization.

We are committed to creating a supportive and rewarding work environment at Turning Point.
