Our Upstream segment focuses on the discovery and development of oil and gas reserves, while our Downstream segment refines these resources into valuable products like petroleum and petrochemicals. The Corporate segment provides essential support services to ensure seamless operations.

Job Summary

We are seeking a talented Data Scientist to join our Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) division within the Global Optimizer Department. S&OP plays a crucial role in optimizing crude allocation and operations across our global manufacturing facilities. This optimization strategy aims to maximize revenue, enhance profitability, and capitalize on international market opportunities.

The S&OP division acts as the central hub for linear programming (LP) at our wholly owned refineries and oversees the integrated global MPIMS model. This sophisticated model is essential for optimizing global crude allocation, exploring new international markets, and integrating operational strategies.

As a Data Scientist, your primary responsibility will be to analyze and structure vast amounts of real-time and historical data. You will develop algorithms and solutions based on this data to support informed decision-making within the company. Your contributions will be instrumental in advancing our forecasting and predictive digital strategy, ultimately contributing to the development of cutting-edge solutions at our Downstream Digital Center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead multifaceted analytic studies involving large datasets.
  • Interpret and analyze data using exploratory mathematical and statistical techniques grounded in the scientific method.
  • Coordinate research and analytic activities utilizing diverse data points (both structured and unstructured) and leverage programming skills to clean, refine, and organize the data.
  • Conduct experiments on data points, provide insights based on experimental results, and offer innovative solutions to complex data challenges.
  • Lead all data experiments assigned by the Data Science Team.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to build data environments that provide data identified by Data Analysts, Data Integrators, Knowledge Managers, and Intel Analysts.
  • Develop methodologies and processes for prioritizing and scheduling projects.
  • Analyze problems and determine root causes.
  • Define company data assets (data models) using Spark, SparkSQL, and HiveSQL jobs to populate these models.
  • Work closely with all business units and engineering teams to develop a long-term strategy for the data platform architecture.

Requirements:

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field. An advanced degree is highly preferred.
  • Have 5-7 years of professional experience in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with one or more programming languages (Java, C, Python, R, etc.).
  • Showcase experience applying data science methods to real-world data problems.
  • Experience utilizing visualization tools to effectively leverage the growing volume of available information.
