Position Overview

Are you passionate about contributing to the field of Communication Support?

We have an exciting opportunity to assist adults recovering from strokes who need help with their communication, eating, drinking, and swallowing abilities.

This full-time role as a Communication Support Specialist will be situated within a dedicated team focused on Adult Acute Care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) in delivering clinical services, including assessment and treatment for a designated caseload.
  • Implement therapy programs under the guidance of the SLT within a collaborative clinical environment.
  • Maintain precise and timely documentation in accordance with professional standards.
  • Engage in training related to your clinical expertise.
  • Mentor new team members and less experienced support staff.
  • Comprehend the underlying principles of therapy tasks and activities established by the SLT, grounded in the fundamental theories of speech and language development.
  • Acquire a thorough understanding of relevant protocols, including safeguarding measures for both children and adults.

Job Duties

Patient Engagement:

  • Assist in the design and execution of communication support interventions.
  • Facilitate therapy groups under the supervision of a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Adjust therapy programs to accommodate individual client needs and circumstances.
  • Tailor practices to address the unique situations of patients, considering cultural, linguistic, and cognitive differences.
  • Provide guidance and support to health and social care staff on implementing communication support programs.
  • Ensure active involvement of clients in the development and prioritization of their care plans whenever feasible.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Essential Qualifications:

  • GCSE in English Language or an equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant experience working with individuals facing various speech, language, and communication challenges.
  • Familiarity with enablement models in a caring or training context.
  • Experience in adult care environments.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of communication resource software.
  • Experience with diverse client groups facing communication difficulties.
  • Background as a support specialist in speech and language therapy.
