Position Overview

We are pleased to announce a unique opportunity to become a vital member of our lung cancer nursing team.

The successful candidate will operate within established organizational frameworks, playing a crucial role in the Lung Cancer team by providing guidance and support to patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals regarding lung cancer. This role involves coordinating service delivery and offering professional expertise, advice, and care to patients undergoing treatment and their families. The nurse will engage across various healthcare settings, maintaining continuous contact with patients to ensure comprehensive support. Participation in nursing research and educational initiatives to enhance clinical excellence in this specialized area is also expected.

We seek a seasoned nurse who is adaptable, driven, and dynamic, possessing outstanding communication abilities to collaborate effectively with our established Lung Cancer service.

Candidates must demonstrate the capacity to prioritize tasks, exercise initiative, and work autonomously to navigate the daily demands of a bustling Lung department.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver specialized clinical knowledge to colleagues, patients, caregivers, and family members. As an expert practitioner, you will liaise with, guide, and advise the multidisciplinary team and external organizations to ensure optimal patient care.

- Spearhead the advancement of clinical services within the specialized field.

- Serve as the primary contact within the multidisciplinary team, coordinating individual patient care, promoting continuity through various treatment modalities, and providing patients with a reliable source of information and support.

Clinical Responsibilities

- Manage a clinical caseload, coordinating care and ensuring easy access to ongoing support for patients.

- Lead the enhancement of clinical services within the specialized area.

- Utilize electronic holistic needs assessment tools to evaluate the support required for individual patients.

- Conduct thorough assessments of patient nursing needs, planning, implementing, and evaluating care delivery.

- Execute advanced clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.

- Collect, compile, evaluate, and report information while maintaining accurate patient records.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse with first-level qualification
  • Degree-level education
  • Post-registration qualification in a specialized area
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Teaching and assessing qualification

Desirable

  • Recognized counseling qualification
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification
  • Advanced communication skills
  • IRMER training

Experience

Essential

  • Post-registration experience in lung cancer care or related respiratory/cancer fields
  • Successful collaboration in multi-agency settings
  • Experience in teaching and assessing in clinical environments
  • Involvement in clinical audit development and execution
  • Participation in service development and implementation of changes

Desirable

  • Clinical leadership experience
  • Experience in requesting imaging as a NMQR

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of professional issues and policies related to the specialized area
  • Knowledge and application of clinical governance
  • Familiarity with clinical audit and research
  • Risk management principles
  • Clinical competencies in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care

  • Proficiency in NHS IT systems
