Position Overview

As an Assistant Officer for Roadway Upkeep, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of our road network. This position involves conducting mandatory inspections, issuing directives, and overseeing work crews for both emergency and standard repair tasks.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform statutory evaluations of the road infrastructure.

- Coordinate and instruct teams for immediate and routine repair activities.

- Develop and prepare work packages for direct engagement with in-house contractors and through established framework agreements.

- Participate in an on-call emergency standby schedule throughout the year to ensure prompt service delivery.

Essential Qualifications

- Comprehensive knowledge of road maintenance practices, including winter services and emergency response protocols.

- Familiarity with relevant legislation, including the Roads (Scotland) Act and the New Road and Street Works Act.

- Proficient in written and verbal communication, with the ability to utilize Microsoft Office and specialized software.

- Capable of identifying road repair needs and overseeing the execution of such tasks.

- Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating respect and equality towards clients and colleagues.

- Willingness to work outside of standard hours as required, both on a scheduled and ad-hoc basis.

Educational Requirements

- A Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Civil Engineering or an SVQ Level 3 in Construction Management/Supervision or an equivalent qualification is necessary.

- A valid UK driving license is essential for travel across various locations.
