About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and diligent Benefits Officer to join our Benefits Team at Rugby Borough Council. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the administration of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction claims, and Discretionary Housing Payment applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process claims accurately and efficiently in accordance with legislative requirements and DWP targets.
  • Stay up-to-date with government policies and legislation related to benefits, including Universal Credit eligibility criteria and working practices.
  • Maintain knowledge of functions, procedures, and systems related to the assessment of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, and Discretionary Housing Payments.
  • Provide excellent customer service, responding to enquiries face-to-face, over the phone, and online.
  • Manage accurate computerised records of data collected in respect of claims administration and payment.
Requirements
  • Experience in processing Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction claims, and Discretionary Housing Payment applications.
  • Knowledge of Civica OpenRevenues and Workflow systems (training can be provided).
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment with a 60/40 weekly split.
