If so, the role of Lead Residential Care Specialist at our Secure Children's Home may be an excellent fit for you.

This facility provides care for

24 young individuals aged 10 to 18.

They are placed with us following legal proceedings, either on remand, sentenced to a period of detention, or due to the necessity of secure accommodation for their safety or the safety of others.

In this role, you will oversee a team of care practitioners who play a crucial part in the daily lives and long-term prospects of these vulnerable young individuals, who may have complex needs and exhibit challenging behaviors.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Lead Residential Care Specialist, you will serve as the primary practitioner for the care team.

Your active involvement in the daily lives of our young residents will utilize a restorative approach to support their personal development and learning.


Your duties will include:
  • Providing leadership, supervision, and support to the care team
  • Collaborating with the Team Manager to ensure high-quality care in a secure environment
  • Managing staff in accordance with policies and procedures, while assisting with recruitment and professional development
  • Ensuring key working and case management safeguards young individuals, minimizes risks, and promotes positive outcomes
  • Proactively managing behavior in a solution-focused manner and developing long-term strategies
  • Delivering individualized care that addresses health, educational support, and personal development needs
  • Coordinating activities to enrich the daily experiences of young people and for special occasions
Candidate Profile:
We seek experienced, enthusiastic, and adaptable candidates who possess the personal qualities necessary to connect with and inspire vulnerable children and young people.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Confidence to lead your team and engage with other professionals and stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and listening abilities
  • Self-awareness to understand your impact on others, with the capacity to reflect on your own practices
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends, bank holidays, and nights
Experience and Qualifications Required:
  • Proficient verbal and written English, numeracy, and basic computer skills
  • Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce (or equivalent), or a commitment to achieving this qualification within a reasonable timeframe (course fees covered)
  • Understanding of child and adolescent development
  • Knowledge of restorative and trauma-informed practices
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation, policies, and child protection and safeguarding principles
  • Experience in a residential childcare setting, supporting children or young people with complex and challenging behaviors
  • Experience in supervising staff and managing their development and training
