Join us in making a positive impact as an Area Manager at Biffa. This position will oversee multiple Biffa locations within the West Sussex area.

A brief overview of the role.

The successful candidate will lead the operational teams across all sites, ensuring the highest safety standards are upheld while achieving contract performance and delivering exceptional customer service to guarantee a safe and supportive experience for all visitors.

  • Continuously enhance safety protocols and procedures, promptly reporting any unsafe practices, accidents, or incidents.
  • Ensure that the Recycling Centres and Transfer Stations consistently meet or exceed service expectations of our clients.
  • Actively participate in the contract management team to advocate for safety and identify areas for improvement.
  • Responsible for implementing and reviewing strategies to boost recycling rates across all facilities.
  • Maintain compliance with all legal requirements relevant to your responsibilities, including all permits, licenses, and consent conditions.
  • Conduct thorough Annual Performance Reviews for all direct reports.
  • Manage resource allocation across the Recycling Centres and Transfer Station network.
  • Ensure adherence to contractual performance standards.
  • Oversee quality control at Recycling Centres and Transfer Stations for all incoming recyclables.
  • Develop immediate reports and enhance the skills and knowledge of your team to empower them in their roles.
  • Manage budgetary expenditures effectively.
  • Be available for emergency call-outs as needed.

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

  • Relevant business qualification, such as an IOSH certificate or equivalent formal safety qualification.
  • Experience in the Waste Industry or a related field such as transport or engineering.
  • Proven ability to manage change within the workplace.
  • Knowledge of waste operations, material processing, and transport/logistics.
  • Ability to motivate, engage, and lead operational teams to maximize performance.
