Position Overview

East Suffolk & North Essex NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to announce an opportunity for an Advanced Biomedical Scientist to become a part of our Haematology & Blood Transfusion team.

A comprehensive relocation package may be offered.

You will be welcomed into a supportive and dynamic MHRA and UKAS accredited laboratory environment that prioritizes the professional growth and development of its personnel. We are recognized as an IBMS accredited training facility for both registration and specialist portfolios.

Candidates must have successfully completed their haematology specialist portfolio. Once proficient, experienced personnel will be included in the out-of-hours roster, which offers a night rate enhancement for independent working.

About Our Pathology Services

Our laboratory is equipped with advanced technologies including Grifols, Sysmex XNs, and ACL TOPS analysers. Our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is Lab Centre. Familiarity with these systems would be beneficial.

Key Responsibilities

As an Advanced Biomedical Scientist, you will have a diverse range of responsibilities, including:

  • Maintaining the quality management system and ensuring UKAS accreditation.
  • Training and supervising junior staff members.
  • Validating and authorizing laboratory results.
  • Providing a safe and high-quality service for patients.

You will be expected to troubleshoot complex equipment or procedural issues and conduct manual, semi-automated, and fully automated laboratory investigations, including specialized tests, within your designated service area with accuracy and efficiency.

Additionally, you will assist in the daily management of stock control and usage, which may involve overseeing Blood Transfusion stock levels and maintaining records to ensure optimal utilization.

Registration Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • HCPC registration
  • Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent
  • Specialist portfolio in Haematology and Blood Transfusion or CPSM logbook
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Desirable Qualifications

  • Relevant Post Registration IBMS Specialist Diploma or IBMS diploma in Biomedical Science

Knowledge & Experience Requirements

Essential Experience

  • In-depth theoretical knowledge and practical experience of specialized biomedical procedures relevant to the position.
  • Significant practical experience in a Biomedical Science laboratory.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience in conducting Risk Assessments.
  • Proficiency with Pathology IT systems.

Desirable Experience

  • European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent
  • Previous relevant experience within the NHS
  • Prior experience in line management of staff
