Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to join our team as an Advanced Biomedical Scientist specializing in Haematology and Blood Transfusion.

This role involves working a comprehensive rota, primarily during night shifts, which may be adjusted based on service requirements.

The position includes independent night shift responsibilities in Haematology and Blood Transfusion after completing an initial training period during standard hours. Night shifts come with additional compensation, and while this is a full-time role, part-time arrangements may be considered.

You will become part of a dynamic and compliant laboratory environment that values the ongoing training and professional growth of its staff. We encourage participation in both internal and external educational opportunities to enhance your expertise.

Our laboratory utilizes advanced technologies, including Grifols analysers in Blood Transfusion and Sysmex XNs and ACL TOPS in Haematology and Coagulation. Familiarity with these systems is advantageous, and prior experience in independent operations within Blood Transfusion and Haematology is essential.

As a candidate, you should be registered with the HCPC and possess the necessary knowledge and experience for this position. You must be capable of collaborating effectively within a team, managing pressure, and adhering to deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will encompass a diverse array of tasks, including:

  • Maintaining the quality management system and ensuring UKAS accreditation.
  • Training and supervising junior staff members.
  • Validating and authorizing laboratory results.
  • Delivering a safe and high-quality service to patients.

You will be expected to troubleshoot complex equipment or procedural issues and conduct various laboratory investigations, including specialized tests, within your designated service area with precision and efficiency.

Additionally, you will assist in the daily management of inventory control and usage, which may involve overseeing Blood Transfusion stock levels and maintaining accurate records to promote efficient utilization.

Registration Requirements

Essential

  • HCPC registration
  • Degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent
  • Specialist portfolio in Haematology and Blood Transfusion or CPSM logbook
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Desirable

  • Post Registration IBMS Specialist Diploma or IBMS diploma in Biomedical Science

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • In-depth theoretical knowledge and practical experience of specialized biomedical procedures relevant to the position.
  • Extensive practical experience in a Biomedical Science laboratory.
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience conducting Risk Assessments.
  • Familiarity with Pathology IT systems.

Desirable

  • European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent
