About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Scientist to join our team at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. As a Clinical Scientist in Radiotherapy, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality radiotherapy services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in a broad range of radiotherapy physics activities, including quality assurance of radiotherapy treatment equipment, treatment planning, and providing assistance with computing throughout the department.
  • Work closely with colleagues within our multi-disciplinary team of physicists, engineers, radiographers, and clinicians to deliver a comprehensive radiotherapy service.
  • Assist in the provision of the Radiotherapy Physics Service (external beam radiotherapy and molecular radiotherapy) at Ipswich Hospital under the overall responsibility of the Lead for Radiotherapy Physics and the Head of Radiation Services.
  • Participate in research and development activity to improve radiotherapy services and contribute to the advancement of medical physics.
Requirements
  • Masters degree in an area of Medical Physics or equivalent level of specialist knowledge.
  • State registered Clinical Scientist.
  • Proven significant postgraduate experience in radiotherapy physics or successful completion of the Scientist Training Programme specialising in Radiotherapy Physics.
  • Ability to act as an entitled Operator under IR(ME)R17 within the field of Radiotherapy.
  • Routine treatment planning and quality assurance on radiotherapy equipment.
  • Knowledge of clinical applications of radiotherapy.
  • Understanding of patient and staff risks arising from equipment failure.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own work.
  • Ability to exercise initiative when dealing with issues within own specialist area of competence.
  • Basic working understanding of all relevant legislation, standards, guidelines, and safety principles relating to Radiotherapy.
