Westlakes Recruit is currently seeking a Lead Nuclear Safety Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis with flexible working options.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acting as the deputy for the Build Assurance Manager as necessary.
  • Overseeing or leading Nuclear Safety Engineering tasks for significant defense programs, including addressing urgent challenges during the construction and commissioning phases of the Naval Reactor Plant through the application of established Safety Engineering methodologies.
  • Serving as the Intelligent Customer for documentation, guidance, and services related to the Naval Reactor Plant and its safety case.
  • Formulating effective technical solutions to challenges encountered during the construction and commissioning of the Naval Reactor Plant.
  • Preparing submissions for the Office of the Chief Engineer to ensure compliance of the constructed Naval Reactor Plant with design, construction, and commissioning standards.
  • Conducting nuclear safety evaluations regarding the implications of modifications and deviations from the intended design of the Naval Reactor Plant.
  • Collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure their requirements are adequately met and integrated into the project as appropriate.

Required Skills and Experience:
Essential:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field such as Engineering or Physical Science.
  • A solid understanding of the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of Reactor Plant systems.
  • Proven ability in technical report writing.

Desirable:

  • Experience in engineering design and construction of systems, with an understanding of the significance of safety and quality.
  • Capability to lead engineering investigations, including conducting Root Cause Analysis.
  • The ability to constructively challenge and influence others, providing clear and credible reasoning to support decisions.
