About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Volunteer Coordinator to join our Rehoming & Fostering team in Newport. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for fostering a supportive and engaging environment for our volunteers, ensuring they play a crucial role in our mission of providing love, attention, and support to pets in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit and support a diverse team of volunteers, promoting the benefits of volunteering and raising awareness of our centre and Blue Cross.
  • Work closely with Centre Managers and Assistant Managers to ensure volunteers are fully integrated into the team, welcoming and collaborating with them.
  • Build relationships with local communities and partners, promoting the benefits of volunteering to provide targeted support.
  • Manage a part-time role working 7.5 hours per week, which could be worked in one day or split over two, on a working pattern to include weekends and public holidays.
About You

You will be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, able to actively promote the work of Blue Cross and the benefits of volunteering to a range of external stakeholders. You will be a self-motivated individual with a focused, creative, and forward-thinking approach to volunteering, enjoying the opportunity to be involved in local volunteering events and national initiatives.

You will have the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with people at all levels, with a passion for ensuring volunteers have the right opportunities to thrive in their roles. You will be organised, flexible, and analytical in your work, with a strong understanding of health and safety legislation and the ability to demonstrate, understand, and apply our Blue Cross values.

Requirements
  • Demonstrable experience of supervision or management of volunteers.
  • Good experience of running and marketing recruitment campaigns for volunteer roles.
  • Experience of working with local communities and promoting volunteer opportunities.
  • Working with and relationship building with a range of external stakeholders.
  • Good experience of actively managing a bank of clients or volunteers.
  • High standards of verbal and written communication.
  • Previous experience in working in a client-focused environment where delivering a high level of customer satisfaction is the norm.
  • Strong organisational, administration, and analytical skills, including use of computerised systems.
  • Good interviewing and recruitment skills.
  • An awareness of health and safety legislation.
  • Current full driving licence.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Qualifications in managing volunteers or similar.
  • Training or coaching skills.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Working with animals, and knowledge of animal welfare.
  • Organising events.
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues.
