Position Overview

We are pleased to announce an opportunity for Band 6 Therapy Specialists to become integral members of our Clinical Operations team at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability. The primary focus of this role is to design and implement therapeutic Occupational Therapy programs within a collaborative multidisciplinary framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate effectively within a specialized multidisciplinary team, showcasing exceptional communication and teamwork skills to achieve patient-centered objectives and ensure optimal rehabilitation for individuals with intricate physical, cognitive, and communicative challenges.
  • Conduct assessments and provide treatment for a designated caseload of patients with complex needs, prioritizing interventions to mitigate risks and address rehabilitation requirements.
  • Evaluate and enhance patients' personal and domestic daily living skills to promote independence wherever feasible.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary assessments and contribute to the development of a comprehensive 24-hour postural management strategy, including the assessment and provision of splints, as well as evaluating seating and bed positioning.

Main Duties

  • Deliver specialized, patient-focused assessments and treatments for a complex neurological caseload as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration, including meetings, reviews, discharge planning, and documentation.
  • Maintain professionalism and foster excellent communication with colleagues, patients, and their families.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the organization's objectives and contribute to their achievement.
  • Continuously seek to enhance efficiency across all aspects of your role.

The Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability is an independent medical charity dedicated to providing care for individuals with brain injuries who require thorough assessment and intensive rehabilitation for conditions such as Huntington's disease and prolonged disorders of consciousness. Our specialized services encompass a ventilator unit and a neuro-behavioral unit.

We cater to patients with the most complex health needs and disabilities, including degenerative or progressive conditions, while also offering palliative care for those facing significant physical challenges alongside neuro-disabilities.

Job Specifications

Qualifications

  • Recognized diploma, degree, or master's degree in Occupational Therapy accredited by the relevant professional bodies.
  • Membership in the professional association for Occupational Therapists.
  • Demonstrated interest in the clinical management of severe neuro-disability.
  • Proficient understanding of evidence-based practice.
  • Working knowledge of physical assessments for complex neurological presentations.
  • Solid understanding of long-term neurological conditions.

Experience

  • A minimum of 18 months of practice as a qualified Occupational Therapist, with at least 6 months in the neuro-disability field.
  • Ability to develop and implement detailed treatment plans.
  • Flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing requirements and to initiate innovative ideas.
  • Capacity to prioritize and manage a substantial caseload effectively.

  • Interest in postural management and splinting techniques.
