Overview

We are excited to present an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Technician/Plumbing Specialist to become a vital member of our Facilities team.

The ideal candidate will be capable of working independently or collaboratively, depending on the tasks at hand, and will closely engage with other trades such as electricians, carpenters, and maintenance personnel. There may be occasions where assistance is required alongside external contractors. The Mechanical Tradesperson should possess a solid understanding and experience in various skills beyond plumbing, particularly in carpentry-related tasks, principles of electrical safety, and isolation procedures.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to learning and enhancing their skills and competencies and will have completed a full apprenticeship with the CITB or hold a City and Guilds NVQ Level 3 qualification in plumbing and heating.

Key Responsibilities

The Mechanical Tradesperson will oversee the maintenance and repair of all heating, ventilation, gas, and water systems throughout the estate. This role offers ample opportunity for physical activity as you will be on your feet throughout the day.

Flexibility in working hours may be required, including early starts, late finishes, and occasional weekend work, depending on the operational needs.

While primarily working independently, you will also be part of a broader Estates team. Your communication skills and exceptional customer service abilities will be essential as you address daily tasks and respond to various inquiries and situations. As a support service, professionalism, friendliness, discretion, and attention to detail are paramount.

About Estates and Property Services

The Estates & Facilities Services Directorate is responsible for delivering comprehensive management services to the University, including property maintenance, planned renovations, cleaning, security, and caretaking.

The Facilities Management team operates within the Estates and Property Service Division, with the core objective of providing essential services across all campuses to ensure that buildings and estates are functional and welcoming for everyone.
