Position: Band 7 Senior Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Band 7 Senior Charge Nurse to become part of the Emergency Department at Countess of Chester Hospital.

This role demands a passionate, driven, and proactive leader with substantial Band 6 experience. The individual will be tasked with ensuring the department adheres to NHSE Emergency Medicine standards, thereby providing safe and effective care for our patients.

We seek a prominent leader who will inspire and support their team in delivering exemplary practice and high-quality, safe, and efficient care to our critically ill patients.

The successful applicant will offer clinical leadership and professional guidance to the multi-disciplinary team members. Additionally, they will hold ongoing responsibility for the operational efficiency of the Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities

The appointed individual will oversee the nursing and support staff on a shift basis. As the department lead, you will monitor quality, safety, and high standards of patient care while ensuring smooth patient flow throughout the department. You will also lead a team of nurses and take charge of quality and safety initiatives within the Emergency Department.

About Our Organization

Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust serves the West Cheshire community and Welsh patients under the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust collaborates within the broader Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership, providing services from three main locations:

  • Countess of Chester Hospital: housing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: offering 56 beds for rehabilitation, intermediate, and outpatient care
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: serving as a base for community services for the local rural population

The Trust employs over 6,258 staff members, including temporary bank staff, and delivers acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services, and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire, along with the Deeside area of Flintshire, which has around 50,000 residents.

Countess of Chester Hospital is a busy district general hospital, with over 503,342 patient attendances recorded in the last year, ranging from simple outpatient appointments to complex surgeries.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse Degree
  • Post-registration qualification or evidence of further study
  • Management Qualification (ISM)
  • Mentorship & Assessing qualification
  • ALS certification

Desirable

  • ATCN/TNCC certification
  • APLS certification
  • Leadership Qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Relevant post-registration clinical experience in the Emergency Department
  • Completion of the Trust's toolkit competencies within the designated timeframe
  • Experience in staff management, with the ability to persuade, influence others, and manage conflict
  • A broad range of clinical experience, including specialty knowledge

Desirable

  • Participation in service development projects
  • Knowledge of financial management within a clinical context
