Position Overview

We are excited to present an opportunity within our Acute Medicine team for a Consultant in Acute Medicine.

This role is designed for part-time engagement,

25 hours per week, with shifts from 10.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Thursday, and 6am to 10am on Friday.

Key Responsibilities

The primary focus of this position is to enhance patient care through the effective management of acute medical conditions. This includes:

  • Providing expert clinical assessment and treatment for patients with acute medical issues.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient management.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development and training to maintain high standards of care.
  • Participating in on-call duties as required for senior roles.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Consultant will be responsible for:

  • Delivering high-quality medical care to patients with acute conditions.
  • Conducting thorough assessments and developing treatment plans.
  • Ensuring compliance with clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Engaging in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.

Planning and Organizational Duties

  • Adhering to established clinical pathways and operational procedures.
  • Participating in regular team meetings to discuss patient care strategies.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.

Communication and Key Working Relationships

  • Effectively communicating with patients and their families regarding treatment options and care plans.
  • Building strong relationships with colleagues across various departments.
  • Maintaining professionalism in all interactions, especially in challenging situations.

Financial Responsibility

  • Ensuring the efficient use of resources within the department.
  • Participating in budget planning and management as required.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Upholding health and safety standards in all clinical practices.
  • Reporting any incidents or hazards promptly to the appropriate authorities.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Medical degree and relevant postgraduate qualifications.
  • Registration with the appropriate medical board.

Desirable Criteria

  • Additional certifications in acute medicine or related fields.

Experience

  • Proven experience in acute medical settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical cases.

  • Experience in teaching and mentoring junior staff.
