About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Acute Medicine Consultant to join our dynamic team at Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Acute Medicine service, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality consultant-delivered care to patients in our Acute Assessment Units and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit.
  • Ensure patient safety, dignity, and care are given the highest priority.
  • Be proactive in ensuring that patients receive rapid assessment, treatment, and clinical decision-making.
  • Undertake clinical leadership and supervision, teaching, and training of junior medical staff.
  • Liaise with clinicians and managers to address any issues arising that may affect the services.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the acute medicine services at WWL.
  • There may be opportunities to pursue an area of specialist interest, such as developing new services or pathways.

Requirements

  • Recent comprehensive experience in Acute Medicine and Respiratory Medicine.
  • Experience of Audit and its role in Clinical Governance.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to training and teaching of junior medical staff and other health professionals.
  • Experience in clinical supervision.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Formal leadership training.
  • CCT or HST in Respiratory Medicine.
  • Additional experience of working in dedicated Medical Admissions unit or equivalent.
  • Previous experience of leading a team.
  • Attendance at 'Teaching the teachers' or similar training course in medical education.
  • CCT in General Medicine/Acute Medicine.
