About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Acute Medicine Consultant to join our team at Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Acute Medicine service, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to patients across our Acute Assessment Units and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality consultant-delivered care to patients, ensuring their safety, dignity, and well-being are prioritized.
  • Lead the development of improved delivery of emergency care to acutely ill medical patients within the settings of the Emergency Floor at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.
  • Review medical patients in short stay units, assessment wards, and Same Day Emergency Care Unit, providing senior cover and clinical leadership.
  • Participate in a large team providing unscheduled care, supported by general physicians in overnight on-call and weekends on-call rota.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the acute medicine services at WWL, pursuing opportunities to develop new services or pathways.
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Recent comprehensive experience in Acute Medicine and Respiratory Medicine.
  • Experience of Audit and its role in Clinical Governance.
  • Effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to training and teaching of junior medical staff and other health professionals.
  • Experience in clinical supervision.
