Position Overview

We are pleased to announce a remarkable opportunity for a Senior Psychiatric Consultant to become part of our esteemed Mental Health Services for Older Adults (MHSOP) Community team.

This is a permanent position comprising 10 sessions, focused on delivering comprehensive mental health care to individuals aged 65 and above, addressing both functional disorders (such as mood and psychotic conditions) and organic illnesses (including neurodegenerative diseases). The role involves conducting assessments and providing treatment in various settings, including community environments and healthcare facilities.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with a range of MHSOP services, including the Community REACT ('crisis') team, Liaison Services for Nursing and Residential Care Homes, Younger Onset Dementia Service, Assessment and Recovery Unit, and General Hospital Liaison Service. Regular participation in multi-disciplinary team meetings is expected.

Key Responsibilities

The new Consultant will engage in a job plan that encompasses both Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) and inpatient responsibilities.

The Consultant and their team will provide input to inpatients across multiple wards. Weekly outpatient clinics will be conducted at designated healthcare facilities. The post-holder will also contribute to service rotas.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognized as a leading teaching institution, offering a diverse array of clinical services.

While this position is full-time, we are open to discussing flexible working arrangements for suitable candidates.

Applicants should be either on the Specialist Register or nearing completion of their Specialist Registrar training, with expected certification within six months of the interview.

This role offers the opportunity to benefit from the attractive Consultant contract for Wales, with a competitive salary range.

Qualifications

  • Registration on the GMC Specialist Register for the relevant specialty or being a Specialty Registrar with CCT/CESR due within six months of the interview date.
