Position Overview

As a key member of the legal team at Ameriprise Financial, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal support across various sectors within the EMEA Real Estate division. This role is critical as the EMEA Real Estate sector represents a vital growth area for our Alternatives business, which is navigating a complex market landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Structuring investment products and drafting relevant documentation, collaborating with external legal advisors and tax professionals as necessary.
  • Negotiating contracts and offering legal counsel on all matters impacting the real estate sector.
  • Overseeing governance and risk management for real estate operations, including participation in essential committees.
  • Providing ongoing legal guidance regarding asset and property management issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards for real estate assets.
  • Addressing asset-level challenges, including financial difficulties related to properties.
  • Collaborating with various internal departments to draft documentation that reflects organizational arrangements.
  • Staying informed on legal developments relevant to real estate funds and commercial property law in the UK and Europe.
  • Supervising junior lawyers and managing external legal counsel relationships.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) is preferred, with a strong emphasis on real estate law.
  • Experience in private practice or in-house legal roles within the real estate or asset management sectors is highly desirable.
  • A keen interest in the evolving real estate market in EMEA and the associated risks and opportunities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple issues under tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality legal standards.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a strong focus on teamwork and collaboration.
  • Capability to build effective working relationships across various business areas and with external stakeholders.
  • Independence in daily operations while fostering open communication with senior management.
  • Confidence in engaging with senior executives to provide practical risk mitigation solutions aligned with the organization’s risk appetite.
