Lead Counsel for EMEA Real Estate

Position Overview: As a key member of the legal team at Ameriprise Financial, you will spearhead the provision of legal guidance across various sectors within the EMEA Real Estate division, which includes all facets of real estate fund investment and management.
Strategic Importance: The EMEA Real Estate sector is a pivotal growth area for Ameriprise Financial. This role presents an exciting opportunity for a seasoned legal professional to contribute to a dynamic team, reporting directly to the Global Head of Legal for Alternatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Structuring proposed investment products and drafting relevant documentation in collaboration with external legal advisors and tax specialists.
- Negotiating contracts and providing comprehensive legal advice on various legal matters impacting the real estate sector.
- Overseeing governance and risk management within the real estate operations, including participation in essential committees.
- Delivering legal insights on asset and property management issues on a daily basis.
- Ensuring compliance with ESG standards for real estate products and assets.
- Addressing asset-level challenges, such as properties with unfavorable financing conditions.
- Collaborating with internal departments (tax, finance, etc.) to draft documentation that reflects internal arrangements.
- Staying informed on legal developments related to real estate funds and commercial property law across the UK and Europe.
- Supervising junior lawyers and external legal secondees.
- Managing the panel of external legal advisors supporting the business.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) is preferred, with a strong emphasis on real estate law.
- Experience in private practice or in-house legal roles, particularly in real estate or asset management, is highly valued.
- A keen interest in the evolving real estate market in EMEA and its associated risks and opportunities.
- Ability to thrive under pressure and manage multiple issues concurrently.
- Exceptional communication and teamwork skills, with a focus on collaboration.
- Proven ability to build effective working relationships across various business areas.
- Capability to work independently while maintaining open communication with senior management.
- Confidence in engaging with senior stakeholders to develop practical solutions that align with the organization’s risk appetite.
