Position Overview: As a key member of the legal team at Ameriprise Financial, you will spearhead the provision of legal guidance across various sectors within the EMEA Real Estate division, which includes all facets of property fund investment and management.

Strategic Importance: The EMEA Real Estate sector is a pivotal growth focus for Ameriprise Financial's Alternatives division. This role presents an exciting opportunity for a seasoned legal professional to join the Global Alternatives Legal Team, reporting directly to the Global Head of Legal for Alternatives. You will lead the legal support for this critical business area while collaborating with fellow legal experts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Structuring investment products and providing comprehensive advice on all related documentation, collaborating with external legal and tax advisors as necessary.
  • Drafting contracts, negotiating terms, and offering legal counsel on various legal matters impacting the real estate sector.
  • Overseeing governance and risk management within the real estate operations, participating in essential committees.
  • Providing ongoing legal advice regarding asset and property management on a daily basis.
  • Ensuring compliance with ESG standards for real estate investments.
  • Addressing asset-level challenges, including those related to financing.
  • Collaborating with other business functions to draft documentation that reflects internal arrangements.
  • Staying informed on significant legal developments affecting real estate funds in the UK and broader European markets.
  • Supervising junior lawyers and external secondees.
  • Managing the panel of external legal advisors supporting the business.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) is preferred, with exceptional candidates considered.
  • Specialized experience in real estate law is highly desirable, whether from private practice or in-house roles.
  • A keen interest in the evolving real estate market in EMEA and its associated risks and opportunities.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple issues simultaneously.
  • A strong team player with excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of collaborating effectively with team members.
  • Proven ability to build successful relationships across various business areas and with external partners.
  • Capacity to work independently while maintaining open communication with senior team members.
  • Confidence in engaging with senior staff to devise practical solutions that align with the organization’s risk management strategies.
