About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mental Health Practitioner to join our team at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust. As a Senior Mental Health Practitioner, you will be responsible for providing expert mental health care to individuals in secure environments, including prisons.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive health and social care assessments for new prisoners, identifying immediate health, risks, and safety needs.
  • Develop initial mental health crisis plans for patients who are presenting as particularly at risk of a mental health crisis.
  • Lead on identifying patients whose needs, risks, or circumstances have changed following a return from court or hospital outside of the reception process.
  • Collaborate with other specialist services, including continuity of care and through the gate arrangements and liaison.
  • Provide brief interventions for substance misuse and mental wellbeing, including sleep hygiene advice and breathing techniques for anxiety management.
Requirements
  • Grade: Band 6 Senior Practitioner
  • Appropriate experience post qualification
  • Prison experience desirable
