About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Mental Health Practitioner to join our team at South West London and St Georges Mental Health NHS Trust. As a key member of our community services team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to individuals with mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and plan the care of service users, working closely with the team manager and consultant psychiatrist to ensure effective discharge and referral processes.
  • Provide specialist consultation and support to Band 6 practitioners, assisting them in decision-making for complex cases.
  • Develop and promote the services' philosophy, framework of care delivery, and strategic objectives, taking responsibility for specific areas of policy and strategy delivery.
  • Supervise nurses and other staff in non-mental health settings, ensuring high standards of nursing practice and adherence to the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Participate in structured clinical supervision and contribute to the development of clinical expertise within the team.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, carers, and other stakeholders, providing up-to-date information on services and supporting individuals in expressing their views and concerns.
  • Link specialist community mental health teams with general hospital services, ensuring seamless care transitions and effective communication.
  • Provide highly specialist knowledge and expert advice to health and social care professionals, supporting the development of specialist support and intervention services.
Person Specification
  • RMN (current NMC registration)
  • Teaching, Mentor, or Assessing qualification
  • On-going evidence of continuing professional development
  • Current and full UK driver's license
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Management or project management qualifications
  • First Degree
  • Educated to Master's degree Level or equivalent diplomas supplemented by specialist training, experience, short courses that constitute a Master's level or equivalent
  • Evidence of working with primary and secondary care, local authorities, and voluntary organizations
  • Experience of working with adults who have experienced serious ongoing mental health problems
  • Experience of managing and monitoring budgets
  • Experience of implementing and monitoring standards of care
  • Experience of implementing the principles and practice of the Recovery approach
