Role Summary

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) serves as the authoritative body overseeing the nuclear sector in the UK. Our core mission is to safeguard society by ensuring the safety of nuclear operations. As an ONR Inspector, you will play a crucial role in this mission, utilizing your expertise to oversee and regulate the nuclear industry.

Key Responsibilities

As the UK's independent nuclear regulator, ONR possesses the legal mandate to enforce nuclear safety, civil nuclear security, safeguards, conventional health and safety, and transportation regulations. Our oversight encompasses the entire nuclear lifecycle, making our organization unique. Your duties may include:

  • Enforcing compliance with legal standards and investigating incidents.
  • Conducting on-site inspections and evaluating submissions from duty holders.
  • Communicating effectively with various stakeholders and providing clear explanations of regulatory decisions.
  • Taking formal enforcement actions when necessary.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a safer nuclear industry by assessing the safety cases of duty holders, ensuring that nuclear facilities are designed, operated, and decommissioned in accordance with legal requirements. You may also collaborate with governmental bodies and professional organizations to shape legislation and best practices on both national and international levels.

Candidate Profile

We offer comprehensive training and on-the-job development to equip you with the necessary regulatory and legal knowledge. Ideal candidates will possess a relevant degree (or equivalent) and chartered membership of a professional institution (or equivalent experience). Experience in the nuclear sector or a high-hazard industry is preferred, but we will consider other relevant backgrounds.

Strong judgment and communication skills are essential. We seek individuals capable of influencing key stakeholders while working collaboratively in a dynamic environment. Compensation and Benefits

ONR offers competitive salaries, with this position offering a salary range of £55,019 – £93,606, along with an additional £4,052 London Weighting Allowance if applicable. You will also have access to a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement, and a hybrid working arrangement.
