Job Title: Senior Health and Safety Specialist

Laing O'Rourke and Bouygues Travaux Publics are working together in a joint venture to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C. We are seeking a Senior Health and Safety Specialist to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Senior Health and Safety Specialist will support the Health and Safety Manager to ensure the project teams are following health and safety regulations, legislation, and policies. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of relevant HS&E legislation and be able to interpret its requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Guide and support project teams in health and safety matters
  • Deputise for the HSE Manager when required
  • Mentor HSE Advisers
  • Transfer between work areas if required
  • Ensure compliance with HPC Project Values
  • Identify hazards and deficiencies, and rate and rank risk
  • Conduct inspections and audits, and ensure compliance with the compliance monitoring programme
  • Carry out investigations and produce comprehensive reports
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
  • Coaching project teams in key HSE project risks
  • Understanding the benefits of using behavioural tools in a continuous improvement cycle
  • Relevant experience in the Construction Industry
  • Good understanding of relevant HS&E legislation
  • Industry recognised qualifications, such as IOSH Managing Safely in Construction or SMSTS
Education and Qualifications:
  • IOSH Managing Safely in Construction or SMSTS
  • NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate
  • Member of Professional Body, such as IOSH
