We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at Laing O'Rourke, working on the Hinkley Point C project. As a key member of our Health and Safety team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the project teams are following health and safety regulations, legislation, and policies, and minimizing occupational risk on site.
Key Responsibilities- Provide robust health and safety advice to project teams and coach them in health and safety matters.
- Deputise for the HSE Manager as required.
- Mentor HSE Advisers and transfer between Bylor work areas if needed.
- Ensure the HPC Project Values are understood and complied with.
- Identify hazards or deficiencies, rate and rank risk, and communicate required actions.
- Conduct inspections and audits of projects, establishments, and offices, ensuring compliance with the compliance monitoring programme.
- Carry out investigations and produce thorough reports addressing underlying issues.
- Monitor compliance and ensure projects implement relevant parts of the BYLOR Safety Management Systems (SMS), identifying corrective action where required.
- Coach project teams in key HSE project risks.
- Understand the benefits of using behavioural tools in a continuous improvement cycle.
- Have relevant experience in the Construction Industry.
- Have a good understanding of relevant HS&E legislation and be able to interpret its requirements.
- Have at least 3-4 years' relevant experience with industry-recognized qualifications.
- Have sufficient environmental knowledge to support the BYLOR environmental agenda.
- IOSH Managing Safely in Construction or SMSTS.
- NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate as a minimum.
- Member of a Professional Body, e.g., IOSH at Tech IOSH minimum.
