Laing O'Rourke and Bouygues Travaux Publics, two leading engineering and construction companies, are collaborating in a joint venture to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C, a £2.8 billion project.
Job Purpose:
To support the Health & Safety Manager in ensuring that project teams adhere to health and safety regulations, legislation, and policies, and minimize occupational risk on site. The successful candidate will be expected to be proactive, challenging, and curious, with a focus on hosting, coaching, mentoring, and engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide robust health and safety advice to project teams and coach them in health and safety matters.
- Deputize for the HSE Manager as required.
- Mentor HSE Advisers.
- Transfer between Bylor work areas if required.
- Ensure that the HPC Project Values are understood and complied with.
- Identify hazards or deficiencies, rate and rank risk, and communicate required actions.
- Conduct inspections and audits of projects, establishments, and offices, ensuring compliance with the compliance monitoring programme.
- Carry out investigations and produce comprehensive reports addressing underlying issues.
- Monitor compliance and ensure projects implement relevant parts of the BYLOR Safety Management Systems (SMS), identifying corrective action where required.
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
- Coach project teams in key HSE project risks.
- Understand the benefits of using behavioral tools in a continuous improvement cycle.
- Relevant experience in the Construction Industry.
- Good understanding of relevant HS&E legislation and ability to interpret requirements.
- At least 3-4 years' relevant experience with industry-recognized qualifications.
- Sufficient environmental knowledge to support the BYLOR environmental agenda.
Education and Qualifications:
- IOSH Managing Safely in Construction or SMSTS.
- NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate as a minimum.
- Member of Professional Body (e.g., IOSH at Tech IOSH minimum).
