Senior Charge Nurse

Drayton Ward at Northside House is a medium secure mental health unit for males over the age of 18 years. It provides admission, assessment, and treatment within a secure environment for individuals with severe mental health problems who require a supervised and supported approach to their treatment.
The unit provides a high level of rehabilitation activities to address the individual needs and to support progression along service user treatment pathways. Achievement of rehabilitation goals will allow the patient to function in conditions of lesser security, maximize their independence and autonomy to attain a sense of personal fulfillment, while maintaining adequate support for patient and public safety.
Main ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for the line management of identified members of the service. This will include monitoring the practice of junior staff and identifying any learning and development needs in respect of the clinical skills base.
The Charge Nurse will maintain professional, therapeutic relationships with patients, carers, and colleagues. They will provide and ensure provision of regular line management supervision and appraisals to junior members of staff.
The role will also involve completing ward rotas as required, ensuring the ward is sufficiently and safely staffed at all times.
Clinical ResponsibilitiesThe Charge Nurse will be accountable for their own professional practice. They will support the development and implementation of recovery-focused interventions to patients with mental illness.
The successful candidate will provide training and support to other staff as appropriate, including non-statutory agencies. They will demonstrate effective personal planning and organization of their daily workload and that of others.
