As a not-for-profit social enterprise owned by three local authorities, we provide the advantages of a social enterprise along with the employment benefits associated with local government.
Position: SEND Mediation and Tribunal Assistant

Your ability to engage in difficult conversations while maintaining composure is essential.
You will participate in SEND panels and provide training related to SEND tribunals and mediation as necessary. A solid understanding of SEND legislation (including the Children & Families Act, Children Act, Equalities Act, etc.) and SEND case law, such as the Code of Practice and SEND Regulations, is crucial.
Daily Activities

- Attend SENDIST Tribunal Hearings on behalf of AfC, including preparatory tasks.
- Employ solution-oriented thinking and creativity to navigate challenges, along with critical analysis of cases.
- Establish and nurture strong relationships through excellent interpersonal skills with families, young individuals, and their representatives, as well as educational institutions and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with SENDIASS and other community organizations to address feedback and resolve local concerns.
- Travel as required across various boroughs to engage with schools and other relevant locations.
Candidate Profile
- Degree-level education with a relevant professional qualification.
- Level 3 or higher training in SEND-related fields (desirable).

- Strong ability to build partnerships and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including children, young individuals, and families.
- Experience representing the Local Authority at SEN and Disability Tribunals.
- Skilled in mediation and conflict resolution meetings with parents and professionals to address issues without resorting to formal legal action.
- Proficient in organizing and leading conferences involving parents, legal representatives, schools, and other professionals.
- Adept at preparing responses for appeal hearings and coordinating with legal services and SEND management teams.
- Knowledgeable about the legal aspects of SEND cases.
- Demonstrates flexibility and the capacity to work independently with minimal oversight.
Benefits
We are committed to fostering a supportive environment, offering a comprehensive range of resources, competitive salary, and benefits that facilitate hybrid working. Employees will have access to:
- 29 days of annual leave, increasing to 33 days after two years and 35 days after four years, plus an additional day off in your birthday month.
