Overview of the Role.

The Lead Engineering Maintenance Coordinator at Biffa is tasked with supervising and directing the engineering team to ensure peak operational efficiency. This position necessitates a proactive approach to addressing engineering challenges and adeptly managing tasks to minimize operational interruptions. It requires a blend of technical knowledge, project oversight capabilities, and leadership skills to drive the team towards excellence.

Your role will involve enhancing the skills of your colleagues and implementing industry best practices. Your contributions will foster a culture of safety and high performance within the engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities.

  • Oversee and guide the team of Maintenance Engineers and Technicians to promptly and effectively address all engineering requirements, prioritizing tasks to minimize operational downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, policies, and procedures to maintain a secure working environment for all personnel.
  • Develop and review safety documentation and operational procedures for engineering tasks performed on-site. Additionally, manage scheduled maintenance, coordinate contractors, and oversee the permit system to ensure safety for all involved.
  • Enhance the skills and knowledge of team members. Mentor and coach the team in troubleshooting activities related to plant and machinery, enabling them to efficiently identify and resolve issues.
  • Communicate team performance and activities through shift reports and handover processes to effectively relay concerns to management, engineering, and production teams.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) initiatives to identify the underlying causes of failures and implement strategies to prevent recurrence, thereby improving plant uptime. Proactively identify potential issues and opportunities for enhancement in plant operations.
  • Manage and oversee the planning and execution of maintenance shutdowns, including task coordination, contractor supervision, and ensuring the safety of all personnel through the implementation of the permit to work system.

Qualifications.

Essential Requirements.

  • Level 3 Qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Budget and Profit & Loss management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications and capable of learning additional software tools.
