Position Overview
We are looking for a dedicated Senior Anaesthesia Consultant to join our esteemed team. This role is a permanent position where the successful candidate will possess a strong interest and relevant experience in colorectal surgery, pre-operative evaluation of complex patients, and general anaesthetic responsibilities. The position will involve participation in a high-risk anaesthetic assessment clinic. The appointee will play a crucial role in advancing perioperative medicine within our organization. Our department has been utilizing cardiopulmonary exercise testing for patient risk stratification for over a decade.
The new consultant will collaborate with existing staff, sharing responsibilities, resources, and support for trainee medical professionals.
Together with fellow consultants, the appointee will spearhead enhancements in anaesthetic services and perioperative care across the Trust.
This permanent role will be located within our healthcare facilities, focusing on delivering exceptional anaesthetic services and perioperative care to our patient population, in collaboration with other consultant colleagues and clinical departments. The position also entails supporting the acute pain management service within the Trust.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Foster and enhance teamwork across the specialty and associated critical care services. Actively engage in formal teaching and practical training of junior medical staff, ensuring professional oversight and guidance for non-consultant grade medical personnel. Commit to the professional growth, both clinical and personal, of trainees. Participate in risk management and governance initiatives within the directorate. Engage in continuing medical education activities as per the guidelines of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Contribute to the consultant anaesthetists on-call rota, including providing coverage during annual and study leave. Maintain ongoing responsibility for the care of patients under their supervision, including all associated administrative duties. Communicate effectively and promptly with departmental and Trust communications. Provide leadership to ensure the effective operation of services in accordance with established Trust policies. Develop personal specialty interests, actively participating in audit and research initiatives. Assume both corporate and individual responsibility for managing junior medical staff.About Our Organization

Essential Qualifications and Skills
Required:
Full registration with the GMC and a license to practice. FRCA or equivalent qualification. CCT (or equivalent) with entry on the Specialist Register for Anaesthesia or anticipated entry within six months of the interview date.Desirable:
Additional degrees or postgraduate qualifications (MRCP, MD, etc.). Postgraduate awards. MSc/Diploma/PG certification in Perioperative Medicine or equivalent. Management or leadership qualifications.Clinical Skills and Experience
Required:
Advanced training in perioperative medicine or equivalent. Higher training in various surgical anaesthesia fields. Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.Desirable:
Advanced training in specific anaesthesia areas. Relevant medical experience outside of anaesthesia.Personal Attributes
