About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Protection and Control Engineer to join our team at SSE, a leading energy company powering communities across the UK. As a key member of our Protection & Control (P&C) Team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of our distribution network.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop scoping documentation and Main Connections & Protection Diagrams (MC&P) for our distribution network.
  • Review P&C designs developed by third parties to ensure compliance with our standards and regulations.
  • Specify P&C-related equipment and plant, including relays, CTs, and VTs.
  • Produce detailed designs, including AC/DC schematics, and carry out protection grading studies.
  • Review Commissioning Plans and attend Commissioning Panel meetings, witnessing FAT and on-site commissioning as required.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Experience working on the distribution network from 11kV to 132kV, preferably in the UK.
  • Previous experience as a Protection & Control Design Engineer, including experience at 11kV, 33kV, and 132kV.
  • Knowledge and experience of protection relays and relay panels, CT & VT sizing calculations, protection grading studies, and detailed AC/DC drawings.
  • Knowledge of UK electrical practices and standards, including CDM regulations.
