About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Communications professional to join our team at YMCA Doncaster. As an External Communications and Marketing Officer, you will play a key role in promoting our work and engaging with our supporters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Content Creation: Develop and implement a content strategy to promote our work and engage with our supporters. This will include creating website articles, social media posts, and other marketing materials.
  • Event Planning: Organize and coordinate events to promote our work and engage with our supporters. This will include planning, executing, and evaluating events such as sponsored sleep outs, Christmas events, and showcase/impact report launches.
  • Brand Management: Oversee the implementation of our brand guidelines across all external communications, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
  • Website Management: Maintain and update our WordPress website, ensuring it is up-to-date and functioning correctly.
  • Media Relations: Develop and maintain relationships with local media outlets, securing press coverage and interviews to promote our work.
  • Email Marketing: Develop and implement an email marketing strategy to engage with our supporters and promote our work.
  • Reporting and Evaluation: Provide regular reports to the Chief Executive on the success of our communications efforts, including metrics on engagement and reach.
Person Specification
  • Experience: A recent track record of success in an employed role focused on external communications, with experience of co-ordinating successful multi-channel campaigns.
  • Skills: Exceptionally strong written communication skills, a strong command of grammar and meticulous attention to detail. Proficient in WordPress, with the ability to create and customise page layouts, manage plugins, update content and ensure basic functionality issues are addressed.
  • Knowledge: Experience or understanding of the charity / voluntary sector and key issues for communication with beneficiaries, supporters and the broader public.
  • Personal Qualities: Self-motivated and self-supporting, with the ability to work methodically and efficiently, programming work to allow for unexpected or short-notice opportunities / needs. Able to supervise and support volunteers and others to complete communications tasks efficiently.
