We are seeking an experienced Communications professional to join our team at YMCA Doncaster. As External Communications and Events Coordinator, you will play a key role in promoting our work and engaging with supporters to help us achieve our mission.
Main Responsibilities- Content Creation: Develop and implement a content strategy to effectively communicate our work and impact to various audiences, including beneficiaries, supporters, and the broader public.
- Event Planning: Organize and coordinate three supporter-focused events annually, including a sponsored sleep out, a Christmas event, and a showcase/impact report launch.
- Brand Management: Ensure adherence to key messaging, branding, and voice across all external communications, including website content, social media, and print materials.
- Website Management: Maintain and update the WordPress website to ensure it remains a valuable resource for our supporters and the public.
- Media Relations: Oversee the distribution of regular media releases and associated enquiries, interviews, and other media-related activities.
- Email Marketing: Develop and implement an email joiner sequence to engage supporters and move them through a journey of increasing commitment to our work.
- Monthly Round-up: Provide a monthly supporter-focused round-up email to keep our supporters informed about our work and impact.
- Calendar Management: Work to a planned calendar of events, publicity, and launches across all products and services to ensure a coordinated and effective communications strategy.
- Publicity and Promotion: Create responsive publicity around ad-hoc successes and achievements to maintain a positive public image.
- Networking and Representation: Attend networking and similar events to represent YMCA Doncaster and promote our work, and coordinate our presence at the annual Business Showcase.
- Design and Print: Coordinate design and print for funded projects, supporter-focused products, and an annual impact publication to ensure high-quality visual materials.
- Data Visualization: Create visualizations for data and impact to help tell the story of our work and its effectiveness.
- Volunteer and Staff Support: Supervise and support volunteers and less experienced staff engaged in communications tasks, providing templates and instructions as needed.
- Legislative Compliance: Ensure compliance with fundraising and other legislation relevant to the role, and recommend updates to relevant policies as necessary.
- Reporting and Evaluation: Report to the Chief Executive monthly in the required format, and approach the role with professionalism and maintain appropriate boundaries with staff, clients, and others.
- Experience: A recent track record of success in an employed role focused on external communications, with experience of co-ordinating successful multi-channel campaigns.
- Charity Sector Knowledge: Experience or understanding of the charity/voluntary sector and key issues for communication with beneficiaries, supporters, and the broader public.
- Measuring Success: Experience of measuring continuous improvement and return on investment in communications work.
- Written Communication: Exceptionally strong written communication skills, a strong command of grammar, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Articulation: Able to articulate YMCA Doncaster's work effectively to a range of audiences, including beneficiaries and supporters.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in WordPress, with the ability to create and customise page layouts, manage plugins, update content, and ensure basic functionality issues are addressed.
- Graphic Design: Experience of basic graphic design work, with the ability to use Canva to create visual materials.
- Supervision and Support: Self-motivated and self-supporting, with the ability to work methodically and efficiently, and supervise and support volunteers and others to complete communications tasks.
- Computer Literacy: Computer literate, able to use Microsoft Word and Excel to a high standard, and able to use technology in gathering information and producing content.
- Confidentiality and Relationships: Experience of maintaining confidentiality and appropriate relationships, and a clear understanding of the importance of those.
- Representation: Able to represent the Association positively, professionally, and with credibility.
