Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at Leonardo in Basildon. As a key member of our Integrated Sensing and Protection line of business, you will be responsible for developing and implementing robust manufacturing processes to ensure the smooth transition of new products from design to production.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement manufacturing processes to meet product requirements, ensuring high-quality production and efficient use of resources.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and deliver medium-term production plans, providing complex technical advice to internal and external customers.
  • Lead the development and improvement of manufacturing processes and equipment, ensuring world-class production of Leonardo products.
  • Provide manufacturing decision-making information, including production schedules, labour and material costs, and future requirements.
  • Resolve complex product and production issues, ensuring efficient escalation and resolution.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency through capacity analysis, simulation planning, workflow optimization, and equipment layout.
  • Review and maintain manufacturing documentation, including process-specific risk assessments, COSHH data, and technical reports.
  • Assure product and process quality through design, validation, and verification of process capabilities.
  • Contribute to failure investigations and implement problem-solving techniques.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing data, including routings, production plans, control plans, and electronic work instructions.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement activities to develop skills and competencies within Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members to develop overall capability.
  • Provide domain expertise in support of customer and user engagement and product roadmaps.
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
Requirements:
  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes and principles.
  • People management and leadership skills, including effective performance and change management.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with others using data and analysis.
  • Detailed understanding of operational frameworks and business processes.
  • Understanding of cross-functional and commercial business processes.
  • Ability to take ownership of work packages and plan and schedule own workload and others.
  • Operational understanding of project work and its impact on other project activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of multiple phases of the Product Life Cycle and associated processes.
  • Experience of peer reviewing work and ensuring implementation of resulting actions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of risk and reward processes associated with engineering activity.
  • Ability to communicate concepts in a non-technical way.
  • Confidence and ability to challenge and respond to technical and process issues.
  • Ability to interact effectively with customers and suppliers.
  • Experience developing manufacturing capability and understanding of Industry 4.0 and Smart Factory principles.
