About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Stress Engineer to join our team at Leonardo. As a key member of our Defence team, you will be responsible for conducting stress analysis and advising on structural engineering activities.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering and experience with finite element analysis software tools. You will work closely with multi-discipline project teams and customers across the UK to deliver high-quality products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct stress analysis and assess mechanical designs for strength, durability, and performance.
  • Support the selection of manufacturing technologies and aerospace materials.
  • Take ownership of stress-related activities for projects throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain common processes and procedures for stress engineering activities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislative, regulatory, and contractual requirements.

Requirements

  • Degree qualification in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience with finite element analysis software tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to influence the direction of internal and external customers.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer status and full membership of a relevant engineering institution.
  • Experience in the design, development, and test of electronics packaging and/or aerospace equipment.

This is a fully onsite role, requiring 5 days per week at our office in Basildon, UK.
