Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a proactive professional to become a part of our EMEA VAT division as an Indirect Tax Specialist. This role provides a unique chance to engage at the crossroads of commerce, finance, and technology within one of the world's leading financial institutions. The selected candidate will collaborate with a diverse international team dedicated to supporting the EMEA region.

The Indirect Tax Specialist will report to a senior team member overseeing the EMEA intercompany aspects of our operations and the Trade Finance sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and provide guidance on intercompany relationships and their implications for revenue and expenses across various products.
  • Collaborate with the tax technology initiative to ensure VAT considerations for intercompany services are effectively implemented.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to enhance the understanding and management of VAT risks associated with intercompany expenses.
  • Comprehend expense allocation methodologies and partner with finance, business, and tax teams to advise on VAT recovery and compliance integration.
  • Expand knowledge of UK and other EMEA VAT frameworks, staying updated on legislative changes to ensure compliance.
  • Provide training and advice to internal stakeholders, including teams involved in intercompany attributions.
  • Clearly communicate VAT risks to non-tax colleagues.
  • Review tax compliance submissions for accuracy.
  • Identify and escalate risks within the team as necessary.
  • Collaborate with external tax advisors and work closely with global Corporate Tax colleagues and various internal stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills Required
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in VAT advisory roles.
  • Comprehensive understanding of UK/EU VAT principles.
  • Familiarity with VAT compliance processes and requirements.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to develop commercially viable solutions.
  • Quick learner with a positive demeanor and professionalism.
  • Ability to work autonomously, managing personal workload and projects effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Accounting or Tax qualification, such as CTA indirect tax route, is preferred.
  • VAT advisory experience at a managerial level within a Big 4 firm or equivalent in-house experience.
  • Desirable knowledge or experience of VAT issues within the financial services sector.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant applications is advantageous.
