SENDIASS Support Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate SENDIASS Support Worker to join our team in Hampshire. As a SENDIASS Support Worker, you will provide confidential, impartial, and one-to-one support to children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual support to a caseload of children and young people with SEND and/or their parents, addressing topics such as EHCP applications, SEND tribunals, attendance issues, social care provision, exclusions, and SEN support.
- Help customers understand their role and expectations by using 'What to Expect' documents and agreeing on the purpose and boundaries of the support provided.
- Explain and refer to relevant SEND legislation and policy when providing advice or support.
- Identify and advocate for barriers that prevent customers from engaging with SEND services, signposting to and engaging these services as required.
- Support children, young people, and/or their parents to self-advocate, coaching and encouraging them to take control and complete tasks themselves.
- Work at least one advice shift per week, answering phone calls and emails to the Polaris SENDIASS helplines, providing information and advice to enable callers to self-advocate.
- Maintain accurate records of advice and support, including database records of case details, documents, and duration of contact.
- Cultivate professional relationships with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve swift and positive outcomes for children and young people.
- Contribute to the development of content and resources for the SENDIASS website and social media.
Requirements:
- A qualification in SEND law or willingness to work towards achieving ISPSEA SEN Law Training at Level 1, 2, and 3 within the first year of employment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Personal or professional experience in a leadership position, a calm but assertive manner, and an aptitude for managing complex conversations with stakeholders.
- Confident working with Outlook, Microsoft packages, and databases.
- A full UK driving license and access to your own car.
