Preston, Lancashire, United Kingdom Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust Full time

About This Role

As an Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner, you'll play a vital role in supporting the recovery and well-being of adults with mental health conditions who are transitioning from secure settings into community life. You'll work closely with Occupational Therapists within our Forensic Community Service (FCS), helping individuals regain independence, reduce the risk of re-admission to secure care, and minimize the likelihood of future offenses.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to service users in various settings, including their homes, community centers, and trust facilities, under the guidance of Occupational Therapists.
  • Collaborate with supervising clinicians through regular meetings to review your work and address any emerging needs or concerns.
  • Empower individuals to achieve their full potential by promoting independence and self-care strategies tailored to their unique circumstances.
  • Demonstrate expertise in instructing individuals and caregivers on the safe and effective use of equipment, aids, and adaptations within your scope of practice.
  • Contribute actively to therapy groups by providing support and assisting with their preparation and facilitation.
  • Advocate for service users, ensuring their voices are heard and their choices are respected throughout their care journey.
  • Build rapport with individuals, fostering their engagement and participation in therapeutic activities designed to enhance their well-being.
  • Contribute to risk management assessments under the direction of therapists, adhering to the principles outlined in the Mental Capacity Act framework.
