Position Overview

We are excited to present an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated and passionate Blood Collection Specialist to join our Integrated Community Teams serving the Derby area.

The working hours are flexible, spanning Monday to Friday, with options for both part-time and full-time schedules.

Our team is committed to delivering outstanding patient-focused care, making it crucial for candidates to possess a genuine interest and experience in this domain.

Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment, as well as work independently, showcasing adaptability. Care is provided in patients' residences and community health facilities.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform venipuncture and other relevant healthcare procedures in patients' homes or community health settings, adhering to the Phlebotomy competency framework.

- Conduct necessary patient care assessments, including baseline observations.

- Promptly report any concerns regarding patients' well-being to the registered members of the Integrated Community Team.

- After each visit, document contemporaneous notes in the appropriate patient information system.

- Utilize DCHS patient information systems as required, including processing e-referrals.

- Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity regarding patient issues at all times, exercising discretion and confidentiality.

- Additional responsibilities and ad hoc tasks may arise, necessitating flexibility in this role.

Our mission is to provide community health services to a diverse patient population exceeding one million individuals in Derbyshire and Derby, as part of Joined Up Care Derbyshire.

We employ approximately 4,200 dedicated staff members, delivering care in 11 community hospitals and over 30 health centers, as well as in clinics, GP practices, schools, care homes, and increasingly, in patients' homes and through virtual consultations.

Throughout the pandemic response, we have successfully led the establishment of public vaccination centers in collaboration with various partners across health and social care.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum of GCSE level education at Grade C / Level 4 or above in English or equivalent.

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health/Social Care.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Willingness to pursue the Care Certificate.
  • Experience in teamwork and the versatility to undertake various tasks.
  • Understanding of confidentiality issues and Caldicott principles.
  • Awareness of the Health and Social Care sector.

Desirable

  • Trained in venipuncture.

Other Requirements

Essential

  • Ability to travel to any site where DCHS services are provided.
