Position Overview

We are in search of a qualified part-time Senior Psychiatric Consultant to join our esteemed team at Cygnet Health Care. This role involves providing expert medical oversight within our specialized mental health services, particularly focusing on our acute care unit.

The successful candidate will assume the role of Responsible Clinician, ensuring the highest standards of care for all inpatients. This includes overseeing treatment plans, conducting audits of medical services, and maintaining compliance with professional guidelines and standards.

Your clinical expertise will be pivotal in delivering transformative treatment, supported by a dedicated team of professionals, including Specialty Doctors, nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver psychiatric care to patients within our acute care unit, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for those experiencing severe mental health crises.
  • Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement effective treatment strategies.
  • Act as a role model, demonstrating a positive and professional demeanor towards patients, their families, and colleagues.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and mental state evaluations of service users.
  • Lead clinical audits and participate in ward rounds to ensure quality care delivery.
  • Oversee risk assessments and management protocols, embedding clinical governance within the team.
  • Supervise documentation for Mental Health Act reviews and attend necessary hearings.
  • Participate in an on-call rota to provide additional support as needed.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Full GMC registration and relevant medical qualifications.
  • Specialist registration and experience in adult psychiatry.
  • In-depth knowledge of mental health legislation and best practices.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and teamwork.
  • Membership in the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent professional body.
