Role Overview
Audit Scotland is dedicated to conducting a series of audits on behalf of the Auditor General for Scotland and the Accounts Commission. Our mission is to provide impartial assurance to the citizens of Scotland by evaluating and commenting on the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of public services. We report our findings publicly, offer recommendations for enhancement, and support Parliamentary oversight.
The Strategic Business Coordinator plays a vital role in assisting Audit Scotland in delivering impactful audit work that positively influences public services in Scotland. This position directly aids the Leadership Team in ensuring the streamlined and effective management of Audit Scotland's operational groups.
Key Responsibilities
The primary focus of this role is to provide essential support to the Leadership Team and individual Audit Directors in their professional responsibilities, which encompass budgeting, strategic and operational planning, human resources management, program oversight, data management, risk assessment, performance evaluation, and resource allocation.
Specific tasks include:
- Attending meetings and contributing to discussions.
- Preparing, compiling, monitoring, and analyzing data.
- Developing and maintaining systems and procedures.
- Drafting plans and reports.
- Communicating effectively with various departments within the organization.
This role will involve participation in meetings across Audit Scotland, such as the Corporate Performance Management and Risk Management Group, as well as external engagements as necessary.
Additional Duties
- Establish and uphold efficient reporting systems to facilitate updates on various aspects, including the dynamic work program, the Audit Scotland business plan, financial management, and performance metrics.
- Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in business group and corporate performance reporting.
- Lead the annual compliance and governance assurance activities.
- Manage risk registers for business groups.
- Prepare and oversee the execution of the business plan.
- Collaborate with the Leadership Team and senior managers to ensure the work program is adequately resourced.
- Develop and maintain systems for resource planning and budget monitoring.
- Coordinate with the Communications team regarding publication schedules.
- Work alongside the Accounts Commission Secretary for agenda planning.
- Collaborate with colleagues across business groups to optimize resource utilization.
- Contribute to corporate improvement initiatives as required.
- Engage with the Corporate Governance and Digital Services Group on information and records management matters.
- Ensure the operation of an effective records management system.
- Oversee the management and development of information assets.
- Lead the business management team, which includes data management and policy officers, while coordinating support from the Business Support Services team.
