Job Summary

The Personal Support Worker provides personalized support and homemaking services to clients and families within the framework of VON Canada (Ontario) policies, procedures, and standards. This role requires collaboration with the healthcare team to meet the needs of clients and achieve an optimal level of independence and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and evaluate the client's or family's home, personal situation, and care plan to determine if any changes are required.
  • Contribute to the development of the care plan under the direction of the Personal Support Program Manager.
  • Implement changes to the care plan as needed, ensuring safety, liability, and financial considerations.
  • Report any changes in the client's or family's needs or home situation to the immediate supervisor or Personal Support Program Manager.
  • Perform personal support tasks, including light cleaning, meal preparation, and household safety monitoring.
  • Provide personal care, including assistance with walking, climbing stairs, and personal hygiene.
  • Support clients' families by providing childcare as needed.
  • Organize daily activities, setting priorities for personal support and other tasks.
  • Complete daily call checks and other forms as required.
Requirements
  • High school diploma.
  • Secondary school education is preferred.
  • CCA Certification is required in Nova Scotia.
  • Must have a certificate in Home Support Worker (Level I, II, III), Personal Support Worker program, or Health Care Aide.
  • Must have a current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C Certificate, if applicable to the work being performed.
  • Some household management experience and experience working with elderly or ill individuals or children.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in this role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
